"V" was created by Kenneth Johnson in the early 80's as a four hour miniseries that aired on NBC in spring 1983! Based on the ratings success of the miniseries NBC commissioned a six hour sequel miniseries titled "V: The final battle" to air in spring 1984. Even though the final battle concluded the storyline, it was still a big enough success for NBC to give the greenlight for production on a one hour weekly television series for air in fall 1984. However due to low ratings the show was cancelled after 19 episodes!
In mid 1989 warner brothers television hired a guy to write the pilot script for V: The next chapter but it was decided that it would be too expensive to be profitable. In 2008 original creator Kenneth Johnson wrote the screenplay for a four hour miniseries follow up of his original miniseries titled "V: The second generation" but when warner brothers made the decision to produce a reimagining of the franchise instead his script was adapted into a full length original novel. ABC approved of the remake series and has so far aired 2 seasons with the chance of a third season looking likely but you never know so we will just have to keep are fingers crossed for good luck!
